The S5FJ is S5's main fighter jet in its fleet of ships. Uniquely balanced with speed, agility and firepower, it's large enough for long space travel yet small enough to easily fly in and out of planet orbits. The fastest ship in S5's fleet, the S5FJ is capable of reaching warp 5, top speed for ships its size.
During the Ralix Uprising, Chopper and Yanko hijacked an S5FJ to fly to the Moon of Benjar and save his friend Moju. Chopper, being at the top of his pilot class, found the ship lagged behind his quick reflexes. The ship simply wasn't keeping up with his brain. Chopper and Yanko began experimenting with power diversion that would temporarily push the warp core beyond its rated capability. The power diversion worked, but the warp core could only handle so much before hitting the law of diminishing returns. Figuring they were already war criminals, Chopper decided to modify the ship to take a larger warp core. Ships of this size and class don't typically run warp cores of that size. The power required to push past warp 5 is immense and the ship wasn't designed to carry that kind of power generation. While the larger core can physically fit, on its own it was useless. Power output still capped at warp 5 regardless of core size. But Chopper's power diversion idea changed that equation entirely.
With a successful test, Chopper was able to divert ship power to the oversized warp core, pushing it well past its rated limit. Under sustained heavy diversion, the ship reaches warp 10, warship territory. In extreme moments, with maximum power diversion, it has briefly touched warp 10.5 to 10.75. But this comes at a cost. Diverting power pulls from life support, creating a progressively toxic environment inside the cockpit. For most pilots this would be a death sentence. For Chopper, a Benjin, his advanced cardiovascular system adapts to the deteriorating environment, allowing him to sustain these speeds far longer than any other pilot could manage.
Warp 10 is the "we need to get out of here" threshold. The 10.5-10.75 range is reserved for moments where there is no other choice. Chopper has never had to find out exactly where his biological limit is. That ceiling remains unknown.
